November 2001/Cheshvon 5762- (Shabbos parshas Noach) Close to 20 diabetic girls of various backgrounds benefited from thought provoking presentations by Rabbi Jung and Mrs. Herzog. Rabbi and Mrs. Meisels made the event a phenomenal success with their educational, enjoyable games and stimulating conversations.

The boys' Melave Malka during that same month (Motzei Shabbos Beraishis), was shorter in duration but equally enjoyably and educational. It took place in Brooklyn and featured a hands-on presentation by Rabbi Meisels on estimating carbohydrates in foods. The Kaliver Rebbe shlita addressed those present with meaningful words of encouragement and fresh optimism.

July 2001/Tamuz 5761- (Shabbos Parshas Pinchos) FWD hosted a mini-shabbaton for several adolescent girls with diabetes. The incredible program included words of encouragement by Rebetzin Weissmandl and Mrs. Herzog, both of Monsey NY. Rabbi Meisels provided constant education and a refreshing outlook. This event was a forerunner to the larger girls' shabbaton, which took place in November.

June 2001/Tamuz 5761- (Shabbos Parshas Korach) FWD organized an overwhelmingly successful shabbaton for over two dozen teenaged boys with diabetes. The event, which took place in Monsey, NY, afforded participants the rare and precious opportunity to share and interact with others who understand their unique experiences. Inspirational lectures were delivered by Rabbi Y. Meisels of Ihel-Wiliamsburg shlit"a, and Rabbi M.M. Weissmandl shlit"a, of Nitra-Monsey, the Rabbinical supervisor of FWD. The organization's director, Rabbi H. Meisels, explained some of the halachic ramifications of diabetes on shabbos. He also spoke about many other educational topics.
